Qurti in NK:01

Qurti is a Compie who works on the Sol-0 Orbiter. In NK:01 she acts as a doctor to Iris, a Level 2 subject raised as a contender to receive an ankar. In NK:02 she replaces Kondoz as the Director of Human Studies and SOL-3 research, becoming the youngest member of the Board of Directors.

Qurti is a talkative and desirable Compie with a special interest in human sociology, especially the experience of love. She has a history of raising her subjects with care and kindness and is unusually benevolent for her species, perhaps as a consequence of her centuries-long friendship with Xaveria. She has been Xaveria’s best friend since the two of them were Litans, an unusual relationship for Compies to have considering their lack of instinctual collaboration.

About 50 years before NK:02, Qurti began simulating the effects of an attachment mutation using her ankar to better understand Xaveria. As a result, she became capable of love. She refuses to turn off this simulation, even when it would make it easier for her to function in Compie society.

Despite her charming exterior, Qurti has privately struggled with alcoholism for at least 30 years. This has had consequences on her parenting of Iris as well as her time overseeing Neokosmos as a Director.

Qurti has a human persona named Kitty.
